President Benigno S. Aquino III has signed into law Republic Act 10166 entitled the “Geology Profession Act of 2012” on June 11, 2012. RA 10166 repealed R.A. 4209 or the previous Geology Profession Act of the Philippines.

The Geology Profession Act of 2012 regulate the practice of geology which is vital to national development. It upgrades geology education and the quality of geologists who, as the law envisions, should be excellent, world class and globally competitive through regulatory measures, programs and activities.

Aside from the examination and registration of geologists and the supervision, control and regulation of the practice of geology, the act also provides for the development of the professional competence of geologists through continuing professional education and the integration of the geology profession.
