WE are on the Look Out for Cybercrime

Manila, Philippines - In pursuit of its advocacy to spread Cyber hygiene awareness, the Department of Justice (DOJ) – Office of Cybercrime (OOC), in collaboration with the Professional Regulation GAD Focal Point System (GAD-FPS), recently conducted a webinar entitled: “Cyber Hygiene For All” last March 24, 2023.  The activity is part of the PRC’s Women’s Month Celebration. The same was attended by PRC personnel, officers, and officials nationwide.

As conveyed by PRC Chairperson Hon. Charito A. Zamora in her opening message delivered by Administrative Service Director Teofilo M. Sison, the Cyber-related capacity-building is a step forward to empowering women as it strengthens their knowledge in handling cyber-related crimes and threats, including issues on gender-based sexual harassment in the workplace and online.

Interactively, various topics were covered by the speakers and subject matter experts from DOJ-OOC such as Cybercrime in the New Normal and Cybercrime Prevention, R.A. No. 11313 or the Safe Spaces Act, Gender-Based Online Sexual Harassment (GBOSH) in the Workplace and Online, Online Banking Safety and lastly the topic on Online Sexual Exploitation of Children (OSEC).

As the webinar ends, Atty. Melisa Jane B. Comafay, International Affairs Office Director and Co-Chairperson for GAD Focal Point System (FPS) Technical Working Group (TWG) extended her gratitude and appreciation to the speakers and the participants in her closing remarks and ended the session with words from Carmen Corbin “Bringing more women to cyber professions will allow us to hear more ideas, explore more perspectives, and build better solutions to the global problem of cybercrime.”

Centered on empowering the WE which stands for women and everyone, the GAD-FPS truly kept abreast with the latest developments in Gender and Development Issues and together, WE can make gender equality a possibility.
