MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA – Aiming to facilitate the mobility and the recognition of Filipino professionals in the international fora, the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) met with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) last November 21, 2024, alongside its participation in the First Multi-Agency Service Mission (MASM) in Melbourne, Australia, and also as part of the PRC’s continuing Asia Pacific Project activities.

With the mutual goal of advancing the profession towards global competency and recognition, the meeting between the PRC and AASW was centered on the regulation and qualification standards of Social Work Practice in the Philippines and Australia. Possible alliances to strengthen the Continuing Professional Development and Career Progression and Specialization Program of the PRC were also discussed during the meeting including the promotion of internationally recognized training and courses for Social Workers to bolster specific skills and expertise.

Joining the discussion were Atty. Melisa Jane Comafay-Yeachana, PRC International Affairs Office (IAO) Director, and Ms. Ella Marie Galima of IAO-Qualifications Recognition Division, together with Ms. Cindy Smith, CEO of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), and Ms. Glenda Lapsley, International Accreditation expert, AASW.

For the benefit of Filipino Social Workers, the PRC and the Professional Regulatory Board for Social Workers (PRB-OSW) look forward to more collaboration and exploratory engagements with foreign counterparts to foster the exchange of best practices and reinforce global convergence in terms of professional regulation and development.

The PRC Asia Pacific Project 2024 continues its foreign mobile service to Thailand on 23-24 November 2024, and later to Tokyo, Japan on 7-8 December 2024.
