PRC And PRBOND To Pursue A New And Enhanced Reciprocity Agreement With US CDR
The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), through the Professional Regulatory Board of Nutrition and Dietetics (PRBOND), is actively coordinating with the United States Commission on Dietetic Registration (US CDR) to explore the establishment of a new Reciprocity Agreement between the two countries. This initiative seeks to enhance the global mobility of Filipino nutritionists and dietitians, thereby opening up further opportunities for professional practice abroad.
As the designated government authority responsible for negotiating reciprocity agreements to facilitate the mobility of professionals with foreign countries, the PRC operates under the mandate of Republic Act No. 8981, also known as the "PRC Modernization Act of 2000," and through its International Affairs Office (IAO), is actively pursuing similar agreements with other nations, including Canada and various ASEAN member states (AMS).
The PRC and PRBOND have a longstanding history of collaboration with the US CDR, having previously entered into a Reciprocity Agreement effective September 29, 1993, and which concluded in December 2023. Under the terms of this agreement, Filipino professionals registered by the PRC were eligible to take the registration examination conducted by the US CDR upon submission of the required documentation, including a registration eligibility application, a signed verification statement from the PRC, and an original foreign degree equivalency statement. Individuals who passed the examination were awarded the Registered Dietitian credential by the US CDR, significantly expanding their professional opportunities.
In light of recent changes to eligibility requirements for the registration examination for dietetic technicians and dietitians, as mandated by the US CDR, the PRC and PRBOND undertake preparatory actions to conduct stakeholder consultations and initiate formal discussions aimed at crafting a new reciprocity agreement. These efforts are intended to ensure that future agreements are aligned with current professional standards and requirements.
The PRC remains steadfast in its commitment to advancing opportunities for Filipino professionals and will continue to work toward establishing agreements that benefit the nutrition and dietetics community.
