Building connections, fostering partnerships – PRC meets with ‘Engineers Australia’

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA – Initiating the exploratory talk, the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC through its Chairperson, Atty. Charito A. Zamora, along with PRC officials Atty. Melisa Jane Comafay Yeachana, International Affairs Office (IAO) Director, Atty. Angiereen Medina, Administrative Service Director, Dir. Raquel Abrantes of PRC Regional Office XI and Regional Coordinator, and Ms. Ella Marie Galima of IAO-Qualifications Recognition Division seized the opportunity in Sydney, Australia to meet with Engineers Australia (EA). This non-profit organization assesses the recognition of foreign and local Engineers in the Australia. Ms. Zeba Salman, Head of International Engagement, and Dr. Pawel Sajewicz, Manager, Agreements & Professional Standards represent the EA during the discussions.

The PRC-EA dialogue centers on providing opportunities to Filipino Engineers working in Australia by establishing partnerships through international trade agreements such as the Agreement Establishing the ASEAN-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (AANZFTA), among others, and eventually, towards Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) negotiations. This PRC initiative aims to facilitate the mobility of Filipino professionals and address concerns about professional qualification and recognition in the Asia Pacific Region.

PRC’s earlier engagements were the PRC meeting with Engineers Australia Sydney Division, and the Society of Engineers Sydney Chapter held during the sidelines of the Sydney Build last 1-2 May 2024. 

On another note, the PRC successfully concluded the 2-day Foreign Mobile Service (FMS) in Sydney, Australia, with two hundred twenty-five (225) clients availing the PRC services. Satisfied with the services received, said clients look forward to expanding the FMS with other states of Australia including New Zealand.

The PRC Asia Pacific Project 2024 will continue its foreign mobile service to Tokyo, Japan on 7-8 December 2024.
