PRC Participates Successful Stakeholders' Consultation on the Philippines-United Arab Emirates Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (PH-UAE CEPA)

Manila, Philippines – The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), Department of Trade and Industry’s Bureau of International Trade Relations (DTI-BITR), Philippine Overseas

Construction Board, Department of Migrant Workers, and other government agencies successfully concluded the Stakeholders' Consultation for the Philippines-United Arab Emirates Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (PH-UAE CEPA) held last October 20, 2024. The consultation, brought together key representatives from both the Philippines and the UAE, was spearheaded by Mr. Jan L. Dela Vega of DTI-BITR and Atty. Melisa Jane C. Yeachana, Director IV from the PRC’s International Affairs Office.

Held in a hybrid format at the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) in Dubai, the event facilitated active participation from stakeholders both in-person and virtually.  The successful consultation ws made possible through through the hosting of MWO-Dubai Labor Attache John Rio A. Bautista and in coordination of the Philippine Professional Organization in United Arab Emirates (PPO-UAE), led by Chairperson Elmer O. Casao.  Discussions were focused on crucial crucial updates on the progress of the PH-UAE CEPA negotiations. With all the expertise of various participants from relevant government agencies and organizations, including the PRC, the event allowed valuable exchanges of insights and feedback on trade in services, professional regulation, and mutual recognition of qualifications.

To ensure the PH-UAE CEPA meets the needs of all parties involved, Mr. Dela Vega and Atty. Yeachana emphasized the importance of ongoing collaboration with stakeholders. Moving forward, the PRC, DTI-BITR and other relevant agencies committed to continue in engaging stakeholders to refining the agreement’s provisions, particularly in the areas of trade in services, particularly professional services, including professional services and recognition. The feedback from this consultation guide the preparations for the on-going negotiations, helping to align priorities with national interests and opportunities for Filipino professionals in the UAE market.

The PRC and DTI remain committed to fostering a stronger bilateral relationship between the Philippines and the UAE through the PH-UAE CEPA. This consultation marks a significant step towards a mutually beneficial partnership, enhancing economic ties and professional opportunities for both countries.
